Minister patronises AGU graduation ceremony

Manama, June 25 (BNA): Arabian Gulf University (AGU)’s president Khalid Abdulrahman Al-Ohaly said that the number of AGU graduates has reached 4013 in various medical, educational and technical fields. Dr. Al Ohaly added that during 38 years, AGU has succeeded in affirming its identity as a model of Gulf union by gathering Gulf citizens under one educational roof. He pointed out that the university has graduated 150 students from the United Arab Emirates, 1298 from the Kingdom of Bahrain, 989 from Saudi Arabia, 181 from the Sultanate of Oman, 1402 from Kuwait and 209 from Qatar. This came during the graduation ceremony of the 13th student batch of AGU for the academic year 2017/2018, comprising of 298 graduates from various specialisations and degrees, under the auspices of Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Council of Higher Education, in the presence of a number of GCC ambassadors to the Kingdom, the president of AGU and members of the university’s Board of Trustees. In his speech, Dr. Al Nuaimi expressed his sincere congratulations to the graduates and their parents, praising the university's work in achieving its mission and goals, which enabled many honourable accomplishments. "Since its establishment, AGU has been keen to be a bastion of scientific excellence, with its provision of capable administrative and academic faculty, a distinguished scientific environment and qualitative academic programmes, which endows its graduates with uniqueness and distinction," said the minister. "The Kingdom of Bahrain, guided by the directives of the wise leadership, will continue to support this university, which is a model of Arab cooperation, while also playing a prominent role in enriching the Gulf with outstanding graduates," the Minister stressed. "With joint efforts, the university will witness further progress, especially in moving to its new headquarters in King Abdullah Medical City, which reflects the deep historical and fraternal relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The scientifically equipped medical city will be a milestone in the path of excellence and progress," he said. Al-Ohaly expressed his pride in graduating this batch of students, of which 133 were graduate level, 140 from the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences at the bachelor level, and 25 were MBA students of the French Arabian Institute. He praised the generous patronage bestowed upon AGU by the leaders of the GCC, with the support of Gulf Ministers of Education and Higher Education and the advice and counsel of the members of the Board of Trustees of the University, besides the efforts of the administrative and academic faculty, which enabled the university to garner achievements and pioneering successes. He added: "On this occasion, we are pleased to announce the completion of the first phase of the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Medical City project. We are now preparing to launch the second phase to build the university hospital." A film of the university's outstanding achievements was presented, followed by the distribution of graduation certificates.
