Ministry to Pioneer Bio-Tourism in Sabah and Sarawak - Deputy Minister

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), June 9 (Bernama) -- The Tourism Ministry is pioneering bio-tourism as another attraction with the focus of promoting its potentials in Sabah and Sarawak, its deputy minister, James Dawos Mamit said here, Saturday. He said a strategy was currently being developed to market bio-tourism which would be conducted differently from the promotion of eco-tourism. Speaking to reporters at a Gawai Open House organised by his ministry at Kota Pedawan here, he had identified the Semenggok Orang Utan Sanctuary and the Borneo Heights at the outskirt here as among the potentials for the bio-tourism sites. He said even before the implementation of the products, the Australian Ecotourism Society had already indicated their interests to know more about bio-tourism and had invited him to present a working paper on the subject. "The society had found it to be a fantastic idea and I believed this strategy (to promote bio-tourism) will also make Sarawak tourism stronger," he added. -- BERNAMA
