Mobile phones traders nabbed for tax evasion

BANGKOK, Feb 23 (TNA) -- Intellectual Property Violations Suppression Unit of the Metropolitan Police Bureau arrested a mobile phone seller, who has been smuggling in smartphones from China for sale at low prices. Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathaworn inspected the commercial building in Soi Phetchaburi 13 alley, after the building was raided by authorities from the Intellectual Property Violations Suppression Unit and arrested one Thai and four Chinese suspects, along with confiscated up to 100,000 smart phones, parts, and accessories, such as headphones, and charging cables, all of which were pirated products of popular electronics brands like Apple and Samsung. The confiscated evidence is said to value up to 30 million baht. The investigation revealed that the location has been modified into a factory used to assemble the phone and screen the logo and packaging, before they are shipped out to stores in Pratunam and Pathumwan areas. The police said all the parts and packages were smuggled in form China, which authorities are continuing further probe, as they believe the suspects are only retailers. (TNA)
