Mohammed bin Rashid opens HCT's new headquarters

Abu Dhabi, May 21, 2013 (WAM) - The UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum opened yesterday the new headquarters of the Ras Al-Khaimah Women's College (RAKWC), part of the Higher Colleges of Technology. Sheikh Mohammed unveiled a special plaque upon his arrival at the Dh130 million building. The opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Mohammad Hassan Omran Al Shamsi, Chancellor of Higher Colleges of Technology, Lt. General Musabbeh Rashid Al Fattan, Director of the Office of the Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, along with other officials, faculty members and students. Sheikh Mohammed toured the various facilities and classes of the college beginning his tour with a visit to the public library where he took part in some students' activities there and signed several copies of his book "Flashes of Inspiration" which he dedicated to the library. He also visited some classrooms, where he attended part of lectures and training lessons. He familiarised himself with a new programme on designing websites and electronic games created by the students; he was also briefed by one of the students about the programme- the first of its kind in the UAE. At one of the classes, Sheikh Mohammed watched an electronic a programme featuring the success story of the Higher Colleges of Technology over the past 15 years before watching a video titled positive energy. At the media studio, Sheikh Mohammed was acquainted with students' programmes and their participations in the various cinema festivals, media forums and national occasions to acquire experience and hone their talents. Sheikh Mohammed stopped at one of the classes, where he watched and listened to an online communication between college students in Ras Al Khaimah and their peers in Al Ain college, thus abridging distances and enhancing coordination and exchange of expertise and knowledge. Before wrapping up his tour, Sheikh visited the colleges' Gym, sports hall and the restaurant after which he met with the students at the colleges' theatre where they welcomed him and expressed pleasure at his fatherly visit. Sheikh Mohammed praised the students' scientific, technical and cultural levels, referring to the youth ambitions and strong will to learning and seizing opportunities given by their leaders who provide them with all financial and moral potential to help them build their future and the future of their country.
