More than half million of meth pills seized in northern provinces

LAMPANG, Aug 21 (TNA) -- The Provincial Police Region 5 reported that recent anti-narcotics operations in the three northern provinces has yielded seizures of 5.9 million Methamphetamine pills and 30 kg of Crystal methamphetamine or "ice". Pol Lt Gen Poonsap Prasertsak, commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 5 led a press conference at the Sop Prap provincial police station in Lampang province to announce the success of the week's anti-narcotics operations. The effort comprised of a joint effort between the Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Lampang police and resulted in six arrests and the seizure of 590,200 meth pills and 30 kg of ice. These include 204,200 meth pills seized in Chiang Mai on August 19. The illicit drugs were transported by traffickers in a pickup truck which was intercepted on the Fang-Mae Chan highway in Mae Ai district. A further 200,000 meth pills concealed in a consignment of fruit packages were seized in Phan district in Chiang Rai district and finally 120,000 meth pills concealed in a spare tire was seized in Sob Prab district in Lam Pang province. A husband and wife were also arrested while traveling on a northern passenger bus in Lam Pang while in possession of 30 kg of ice. (END)
