More Tourists Visiting Msia's Duty-Free Island in First Five Months of 2012

LANGKAWI (Kedah,Malaysia), June 7 (Bernama) -- The number of tourists visiting Langkawi in the first five months of this year has increased to 614,000 compared to 549,000 over the same period last year. Tourist arrivals to the island through the Langkawi International Airport had increased by 11 per cent between January and May, 2012. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the increase showed that the launching of the Langkawi Tourism Blueprint by Prime Minister Najib Razak last December had a positive effect on this duty-free island. "The blueprint determines the direction of the tourism industry here in increasing tourist arrivals to this resort island," he said when launching the ICT Strategic Plan, I-Link system and Pitch Book MICE of the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada), here, Thursday. Nor Mohamed said the officers involved in the implementation of the blueprint had shown commitment in carrying out their tasks to ensure the tourism programmes went on smoothly. The I-Link system was developed to smoothen investment monitoring which could record investment proposals, besides facilitating investment and for the investors to know about their investment status. Pitch Book MICE contains complete information on the industry to be promoted to the international market. -- BERNAMA
