M'sian National Education System To Undergo Transformation Next Year

JOHOR BAHARU (Johor, Malaysia), July 14 (Bernama) -- The national education system is expected to undergo transformation next year by taking into account the findings of the National Education Dialogue (NED) conducted since April. Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the transformation would be done in phases starting with matters that could be implemented immediately. "We are hoping for a quantum leap. All views from the series of dialogue are recorded, reviewed and analysed for the gist in developing the Education Development Plan in 15 years and Strategic Education Plan in three years. "There are short term, medium term and long term plans over 15 years to improve the quality of education to be on par with developed countries," he told reporters after closing the National Education Dialogue (NED) 2012 here Saturday. The education minister said input from NED would help the Ministry of Education in preparing the final report for the Cabinet by year end. The final report would take into account views of panel members, international panel members, Unesco officials and local universities. He said the 15 series of NED involving over 10,000 people proved that the government was sincere in improving the national education system. "Its a long, tedious and exhausting process but the Ministry of Education has suceeded in the people's interest. We are aware that views of the people must not be left out." The government plans to hold several more roadshows in September and October to exhibit the findings from NED. -- BERNAMA
