Muharraq celebrated as Capital of Islamic Culture 2018

Manama, Jan. 28 (BNA): Under the patronage of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa represented HM the King in the Muharraq’s celebration as Capital of Islamic Culture 2018 staged by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA). The Deputy Premier took pride in the selection of Muharraq as Capital of Islamic Culture 2018 by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (ISESCO), which comes in recognition of its rich cultural diversity, genuine heritage and history, in addition to its significance as a longtime hub for political, cultural, trade and economic activities. HH Shaikh Mubarak welcomed the guests of the celebration in Muharraq, which once was the capital of Bahrain. He pointed out the city's strategic location on the east coast and the Pearl Trail, and which is registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. He expressed appreciation of the efforts by BACA President Shaikh Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa and staff in accentuating Bahrain as a tourism destination.
