Muslims in Thai far South celebrate Ed al-Adha festival
BANGKOK, October 26 (TNA) - Muslims in the Thai far South on Friday celebrated Ed al-Adha festival, marking the end of their annual Ramadan fasting month, resulting in inactive businesses in the southernmost region.
In Yala province, for instance, Thai Muslims joined in their routine prayers and then returned home to sacrifice cows. Businesses were, thus, silent in the heart of Yala, as most local Muslims closed their shops or firms to attend religious ceremonies. Only some businesses of Buddhists and Chinese-blooded locals remained open.
In Songkhla province, local businesses were also inactive at the Chana Market in Chana District although more shops and firms of Buddhists were open.
Meanwhile, security forces, including defence volunteers and police, have kept guarding local commercial areas and communities in the Thai deep South to ensure security. (TNA)
