National Day/Experts Says Volunteering Has Become Culture in Qatari Society

Doha, December 06 (QNA) - Experts in the volunteering field underlined that volunteering has become a way of life and culture in Qatari society, after the success of volunteers in achieving their duties in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and all major events held by state institutions. In a symposium held Monday evening in Darb Al Saai in Umm Salal, in conjunction with International Volunteer Day, which falls on December 5 of each year, the participants addressed the issue under the title "Volunteering is an Arab and human heritage and culture." Director of the Volunteer Strategy Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Nasser Al Mogaiseeb, Qatar Voluntary Center director Moeed Al Qahtani, Wadha Al Athba, a trainer and leader in volunteer work and its management, and writer and journalist Najat Ali Mohammed, participated in the symposium. They underscored the importance of volunteer work and its connection to the values of giving stemming from the Islamic religion. Director of the Volunteer Strategy Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Nasser Al Mogaiseeb said that more than 20,000 volunteers have been selected out of 500,000 who wish to volunteer, after interviewing approximately 55,000, pointing out that there is a desire for the volunteers to ensure the success of the world's most prominent sporting event. Also, he talked about the art of managing volunteers and defining their tasks to ensure the success of the work, stressing that the culture of volunteering has become part of the culture in Qatar, but rather it can be an identity based on the history of the State of Qatar in giving, cooperation and cohesion to achieve major goals. He noted that volunteering is not only physical but also there is intellectual volunteering that can contribute to putting forward ideas and projects to serve the community. (QNA)
