NGOs Urged To Cooperate With MACC To Curb Corruption

GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia), April 21 (Bernama) -- Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have been urged to cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in fighting corruption. Penang MACC director Samarajoo Manikam said being the voice of the people, NGOs were an influential entity in changing public perception towards corruption and restoring integrity in the society. He said fighting corruption would not succeed without the cooperation of all quarters. "Hence, NGOs can act as an agent of the MACC in raising public awareness on the scourge of corruption. "A special training module will be developed for NGOs to enable them to play the role of an agent to the MACC," he told reporters after attending a briefing and an anti-corruption forum for 12 NGOs here on Saturday. Among NGOs, which took part in the forum, were the Penang Malay Chamber of Commerce, Penang Chinese Consumers Association, Gabungan Bela Hak Insan Pulau Pinang, Penang Contractors Association and Penang Malays Association. -- BERNAMA
