NHRA investigates young woman's death

Manama, July 11 (BNA): The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA)'s CEO, Dr. Mariam A. Al Jalahma, said the authority began investigation procedures into the death of a young Bahraini woman who passed away after receiving medical treatment in a private hospital. Dr. Al Jalahma said the authority received official report regarding the death incidence and the judicial control inspectors immediately visited the hospital and opened an investigation record. Statements taken from the hospital's manager and the treating physicians were recorded. The medical file was scrutinized and all the procedures since the patient entered the hospital were also recorded. A photocopy of the patient's medical file was taken. The authority in its capacity as an independent investigative body will refer the case file attached with all the evidences and papers to the relevant technical panels in the authority which in turn will present a technical report to the Public Prosecution regarding whether medical error occurred or not in the course of medical treatment. The authority will take disciplinary actions in accordance with the law in case there was medical error and will refer the offender(s) to the Disciplinary Panel in the authority. The authority offered its sincere condolences to the victim's family. As per Law 38/2009 on the establishment of the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), the authority is the competent body that monitors health institutions, receives and studies complaints and holds licensees accountable for error(s) committed as per Article 4 of the said law.
