Nigerian Man Ordered To Enter Defence To Drug Possession Charge
PETALING JAYA (Selangor,Malaysia), May 24 (Bernama) -- A Nigerian man, on
Thursday, was ordered by the Sessions Court here to enter his defence to a
charge of being in possession of 138.8 grammes of cannabis at his home, two
years ago.
Judge Suraiya Mustafa Kamal ordered Emenike Joseph, 31, to enter his defence
after finding that the prosecution, led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ching Kian
Chun, had proven a prima facie case against him.
The accused, who was represented by counsel Syahrul Syazwan Salehin, was
alleged to have committed the offence at his apartment, here at 2.30 pm on Sept
7, 2010.
He was charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and faces a minimum of
five years in prison or can be imprisoned for life and whipped 10 times, if
convicted.
Five witnesses testified during the prosecution case. The court set June 11
for the defence's case.
