NIHR delegation meets UN officials

Manama, Sep. 17 (BNA): Vice Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Abdulla Al-Derazi, and the NIHR’s Board of Commissioners member and also the Complaints, Survey and Follow-up Committee member, Dr. Hameed Hussain, held a meeting with the Officer-in-Charge of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) section at the UN Human Rights Office, Mohmmed Al-Nsour, and the Officer-in-charge of Bahrain at OHCHR, Mohammed Hojeij.
The meeting was held at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, on the sidelines of the NIHR’s delegation’s participation in the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
NIHR’s Vice-Chairman said that the meeting was within the framework of the NIHR’s cooperation and contacts with international human rights agencies, especially the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR, to consolidate and protect human rights. He added that the NIHR was looking forward to enhancing such cooperation and exchange of expertise in order to improve its human rights achievements.
Al-Derazi highlighted the NIHR’s work and goals to preserve human rights and consolidate them. He affirmed that the human rights march in the kingdom goes hand in hand with the reform process and the development programmes led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to bring about more progress and prosperity for Bahrain and its people.
Dr. Hameed Hussain highlighted the positive development of human rights issue in the kingdom, as well as the tremendous efforts exerted by the NIHR to consolidate and protect human rights.
He stressed that concerted local efforts would help overcome all challenges facing human rights work, affirming that the kingdom is on the right path regarding human rights protection.
