NIHR lauds Bahrain's reservations on CEDAW

Manama, Apr. 22 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) hailed the precise and well-defined reservations of Bahrain on The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) contained in decree-law 70 of 2014 compared to the previous version contained in decree-law 5 of 2002 which was general and inclusive of all pertinent provisions and was construed to mar the kingdom's reputation in international gatherings. The NIHR values precision of the topics of reservations on certain provisions, especially those contained in decree-law 70 of 2014 to amend some provisions of decree-law 5 of 2002 approving accession to CEDAW. The NIHR asserts full support to all measures aimed at boosting the status of Bahraini women and ensuring all civil, political, economic, social and cultural privileges and rights for them without contravening Islamic ethics and customs and traditions.
