NIHR participates in anti-human trafficking workshop

Manama, Sep. 8 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has participated in a regional workshop organised by the United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, in collaboration with the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) and the National Centre for Human Rights in Jordan.
Board of Commissioners' member, Dr. Jameela Mansoor Al-Sammak, and Training and Education Director, Ali Al-Bahar, represented the NIHR at the workshop, themed "Role of National Human Rights Institutions in Combating Human Trafficking", held in Amman on September 6-7.
The two-day workshop discussed the obligations of countries under the International Law on human rights relating to combating trafficking in persons, and ways to protect the victims.
The workshop discussed the legislative, strategic, institutional and organisational procedures to adapt the national anti-human trafficking laws to the international principles and standards in this regard. It also tackled ways to bridge the existing gaps and reform priorities, and informed the participants about the regional and global human rights-based frameworks for combating trafficking in persons.
The meeting also discussed ways to enhance exchange of information and the best practices.
