NIHR receives US congressional staff delegation

Manama, Oct. 1 (BNA): National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s president Maria Khoury received a delegation of congressional and senate staff from the United States. Khoury reviewed the National Institution’s role in promoting and protection of human rights according to its powers and jurisdictions as well as its advisory role in presenting recommendations on human rights to the concerned entities. NIHR’s president cited Bahrain’s positive strides in boosting the protection of human rights, and briefed the delegation about the NIHR’s complaints and legal assistance mechanisms in addition to scheduled or surprise visits to places of detention according to international human rights standards as well as attending court hearings to ensure fair trial.
