NIHR's chief receives UK delegation

Manama, July 7 (BNA): Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Maria Khoury, has received a delegation of British experts specialised in investigation and monitoring of police conduct.
Acting Attorney-General and Chairman of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Mohammed Al-Hazza, NIHR’s Commissioners’ Council member, Khaled Abdulaziz Alshaer, and Secretary-General, Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadhel, were present.
Khouri stressed coordination and cooperation with the United Kingdom in various fields, especially the human rights one.
She briefed the delegation about the NIHR’s establishment and progress, as well as about its role in promoting the human rights culture, and the programmes it provides for university students, the law enforcement personnel, judges and the public.
She also highlighted the NIHR’s cooperation with the official authorities in the kingdom, particularly the SIU.
NIHR’s secretary-general highlighted the Secretariat-General’s achievments over the past period, including training and educational programmes that targeted 1308 law enforcement personnel.
The meeting also discussed a number of human rights topics, such as the rights of people with disabilities, sustainable development, health, climate change and business management.
Members of the UK delegation lauded the NIHR’s role in consolidating human rights, stressing the importance of cooperation with the relavant sides in the UK to further promote the human rights culture.
