NIHR's committee discusses autism, health insurance
Manama, May 22 (BNA): The Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Committee at the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held here today its 11th regular meeting.
Dr. Hameed Ahmed Husain chaired the meeting, which was also attended by members Abdulla Ahmed Al-Durazi, Wedad Radhi Al Moosawi.
The committee discussed a proposal to conduct field visits to places where health, educational and social services are provided for autistic persons.
Through the visits, the committee aims to collect first-hand information about the services delivered to persons with autism, as well to identify the obstacles facing them.
The collected information will be used in the Round Table on Persons with Autism, which is expected to be held later this year to shed light on the services enjoyed by such a group, and to come up with recommendation on how to ensure their access to their full rights.
In another context, the NIHR committee praised the adoption of the Health Insurance Law aimed at providing the best health services to the citizens through giving them the opportunity to choose between receiving treatment in public or private health facilities.
This, the committee said, would stimulate positive competition among health institutions.
