No Interference To Judiciary When Delivering Judgement
KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- As the judicial system was the very basic
in democratic practice in the country, everyone should believe, trust and uphold
it, said Senate Deputy Speaker Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
He echoed Chief Justice Arifin Zakaria's statement on Monday that the
judiciary neither bowed to executive interference nor was it politically
motivated when delivering judgements.
"As far as I am concerned, if you are talking about separation of power, the
concept completely shows that there is no connection between judiciary and the
executive...
"Interference means, the executive can tell or pressure the judiciary or the
judges to decide differently but obviously, these do not happen here," he told
reporters after receiving 30 law students under the Zaid Ibrahim & Co Student
Attachment Programme here Tuesday.
He was commenting on Chief Justice Arifin Zakaria's statement during the
opening of the 46th Conference of the Malaysian Judges Council Monday, that
everyone could give their opinion on the country's judiciary or any judicial
decision, but not to the extent of insulting the institution.
Wan Junaidi said, he had been talking to and discussing with many people in
the judiciary, and yet they (judiciary) had never been told by the executive to
make judgements differently from what they believed in the law.
"It is just a wrong perception created by some people to make people think
that they (the executive) made interference to the judiciary but from what I
have seen, very much of the thing is decided according to the law," he said.
