No Severe Impact Of Bersih 3.0 On Foreign Investment Flow - Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- The Bersih 3.0 rally of April 28 has not had a negative impact on flow of foreign investment to the country, Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) Mustapa Mohamed said on Tuesday. He said there was not much impact to the investment climate and the business environment as Malaysia continued to be stable. The government will continue to ensure peace, security and harmony in the country, Mustapa told reporters after a meeting with industry associations as well as business councils, here. The rally, however, has affected certain areas such as tourism and businesses near Dataran Merdeka, he said. "For example, international delegates of a conference to be held in a couple of weeks have inquired about the security situation in Malaysia," he said. Mustapa said several quarters were currently working out the estimates of losses incurred during the Bersih 3.0 gathering. "Transport operators told SME Corp that they lost about US$1.74 million (RM5.4 million). Most traders lost at least between 10 and 60 per cent (of business) on that day based on a survey done by SME Corp," he said. -- BERNAMA
