Nominations for UNESCO King Hamad Prize to be submitted before September 30

Manama, May 10 (BNA): Candidates wishing to vie for the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education can submit their nominations before September 30, 2016, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) announced.
The theme of this year's award will focus on the use of ICT to teach the less fortunate. UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova said the prize is in tune with the organisation's new strategy 2030, particularly its fourth goal.
Education Minister Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi said the well-reputed international award was instituted at an initiative by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in 2005 in cooperation between Bahrain and UNESCO. The prize aims to reward individuals, institutions and organisations for projects based on the best practices and innovative use of ICT to boost educational performance. The winners are chosen by an international jury.
Candidates wishing to vie for the prize can contact the national panel in their countries or any international non-government organisation having official relations with UNESCO. They can also fill out an application form on UNESCO's official website, the organisation explained.
