Novelist Ahmed Abdul Malik Highlights to QNA Katara Prize for Arabic Novel's Impacts on Qatari, Arab Writers

Doha, October 17 (QNA) - Qatari novelist and academic Dr. Ahmed Abdul Malik said Monday that the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel, with its literary and financial values, highly benefits Qatari and Arab writers, encourages creativity and serves the Arab narrative. Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) after winning the award (Qatari novel category) for the second time, Abdul Malik said the award has the upper hand in serving Arabic literature, and it reflects Qatar's appreciation for Arab creativity. The Professor of Media at the Community College of Qatar received this year's prize for his novel Dukhan... Memoirs of a Former Diplomat. He won the prize for the first time in 2019. Abdul Malik said that the award winners can re-participate in the prize pool after 3 years of winning. The award adopted some writers, particularly in Qatar, and consolidated their talents and helped improv their creativity, he said, adding the publication of the winning novel in a foreign language contributes to the dissemination of the Arabic novel among other cultures. So far, three Qatari novelists won this prize, namely Ahmed Abdul Malik, Abdul Rahim Al Siddiqi, and Shamma Al Kuwari. (QNA)
