NSC chief urges all parties to join forces to solve southern violence

BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) -- The car bombing in Pattani province this week was an act of a same group of southern insurgents and local people’s support could help stop the violence, Gen Thawip Netniyom, according to secretary-general of the National Security Council (NSC). Regarding the bombing at Big C Supercenter in Pattani's provincial seat on Tuesday, Gen Thawip said a suspect was at large and was hiding in the country, and authorities believed the chairman of a local administrative organisation in Nong Chik district might be involved in the attack. “The key to ensure public safety is cooperation from the civil sector. People should be helpful by always be on the lookout,” the NSC secretary-general said. Gen Thawip also commented that intelligence had to be improved as insurgents changed their violent movements. They stole vehicles and used them as car bombs right away. Therefore, authorities needed to share information faster, he said. “Intelligence and security officials are monitoring suspects and may call them for questioning. Fair treatment is guaranteed. Those who ignore summons will face arrest warrants,” Gen Thawip said. (TNA)
