OIC Teams Up With Alwaleed Foundation To Promote Humanitarian Action

KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Bernama) -- The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Kingdom Holding Group recently signed an agreement in Riyadh to coordinate in humanitarian fields and sustainable development issues. The agreement will see the OIC cooperating with Alwaleed bin Talal's International Foundation to expand its partnership to include civil society organisations and promote humanitarian action, the Jeddah-based OIC said in a statement Wednesday. The foundation, with a mission to help alleviate suffering and transcend international borders, has donated US$1 million to the OIC's humanitarian activities in Somalia. The framework of the agreement was finalised after OIC Secretary-General Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu discussed the issue at a meeting with Prince Alwaleed in the middle of January last year. The agreement was signed by Ihsanoglu and Prince Alwaleed, who is the chairman of the Kingdom Holding Group. Kingdom Holding Company, a Saudi Arabian company, is one of the largest and most diversified private investment companies with holdings in a large number of Saudi Arabian, Middle Eastern and other international companies. The foundation is among the world’s leading civic organisations to extend assistance across the globe. Both the company and the foundation were founded by Prince Alwaleed, an entrepreneur and international investor. -- BERNAMA
