One police officer killed in Narathiwat police station attack

NARATHIWAT, June 30 (TNA) – One police officer was shot dead by gunmen at the Ra-ngae provincial police station in the violence –plagued province of Narathiwat while three others were injured. About six gunmen arrived at the police station in a pick-up truck on Thursday morning before they opened fires at police officers, who were standing outside the building during the routine morning national anthem observation. Police Corporal Supaksorn Sayukongthon, squad leader of crime prevention and suppression was killed and another three police officers were wounded. The attack led to a clash between the two sides before the gunmen managed to escape, heading to the provincial seat. According to the investigation, the pick-up truck, used to carry out the shooting attack was stolen from a teacher at a child care center, run by a local authority in Narathiwat’s Sukhirin district during pre-dawn hours today. The incident prompted Narathiwat governor Sitthichai Sakda to order security be tightened and the police are hunting the gunmen. All of them are still at large. All three injured police officers remain hospitalized. (TNA)
