Overtime Of US$8.85 A Day If Indonesian Maids Made To Work On Off Days

By Ahmad Fuad Yahya JAKARTA, March 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysians employing Indonesian maids will have to pay overtime of RM27 (US$8.85) a day if the hired helps have to work on their off (rest) days, which is four days a month. Thus it will the cost the employers an additional RM108 (US$35) a month on top of their minimum monthy salary of RM700 (US$229) for a single type of work, either cooking, babysitting, taking care of the elderly or housekeeping. This was stated here today by Indonesia's Labour Placement Development director-general Dr Reyna Usman. On Thursday, he had announced that Indonesian maids sent to Malaysia would only perform one of the four tasks for the salary stated and would no longer multitask. Bernama had on Friday, reported Malaysia's Human Resource Minister Dr S.Subramaniam as saying in IPOH, Perak state, that representatives from both countries would be meeting in Jakarta to resolve issues regarding the sending of Indonesian maids to Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
