Parliamentary delegation announced

Manama, June 26 (BNA): A parliamentary team has been set up today to hold talks with Government over the pending pensions laws. Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla issued an edict establishing the panel, following royal directives issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa. Chaired by First Deputy Speaker Ali Al-Aradi, the parliamentary delegation includes also Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee chairman MP Majid Al-Majid, Financial and Economic Affairs Committee Chairman Abdulrahman Buali and Services Committee Chairman Abbas Al-Madhi. The delegation will represent the legislative branch in talks with the government as part of the joint committee so as to reach a consensus formula over the pension laws. The Speaker stressed the crucial need to deal with the pension issue with utmost interest and reach an expedite consensual formula, in compliance with the royal directives. He urged full parliamentary cooperation and dedicated and responsible efforts to reach a consensus with the representatives of the Government and the Shura Council to protect the interests of subscribers and retirees and ensure the sustainability of the pension funds. The Speaker announced the joint Government – Parliamentary Committee would convene for its first meeting with the coming days, stressing the keenness of the legislative branch on the country’s development and citizens’ welfare. He expressed confidence in the ability of the legislative and executive branches of government to overcome current challenges and reach a consensual solution between all parties.
