Party President Conveys New Year Wishes To Indian Community

KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- MIC president G. Palanivel wished a very happy Nanthana Chitrai Puthandu (Tamil new year) to the Indian community in the country who welcome the new year Friday. In a short press statement released here Thursday, Palanivel also wished all the Malayalee and Sikhs a very happy Vishu and Vaisakhi celebration which falls on Saturday. He also extended the new year wish to the Thais and Myanmarese who will be celebrating the water festival of Songkran and Thingyan on Friday. "I hope this year will bring auspiciousness to the south and south east Asian communities which follow the solar calendar," he said. MIC stands for Malaysian Indian Congress, is a Malaysian political party and is one of the founding members of the ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional (National Front), that has been in power since the country achieved independence in 1957. -- BERNAMA
