People urged to use water wisely during Songkran
BANGKOK, April 6 (TNA) -- The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) has requested people to celebrate the upcoming Songkran Festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year, wisesly, said a spokeswoman of MWA.
The spokeswoman said festive celebrants should splash water at each during the festival which starts from April 13-15 by thinking of road safety and places where activities are organised as priority.
People should also not swim in Khlong Prapa canal, Bangkok’s main source of drinking water, because it would contaminate raw water used by MWA in producing tapwater and to also protect their lives because Khlong Prapa is about six metres deep while its embankment is also steep, she said.
Besides, swimming in Khlong Prapa canal is against the law, she said.
People who plan to travel upcountry during the festival should also turn off water pipes and electricity before leaving their houses as they will be away several days, she added. (TNA)
