Persistent rain causes floods at centers of several provinces
PHICHIT, Sept 12 (TNA) -- Torrential rain has brought about flooding in urban areas of Phichit, Maha Sarakham, Chon Buri and Sa Kaeo provinces.
In Phichit, flooding covers its economic area on Sri Mala and Pracha Uthit roads. Government offices also stand there. Floodwater is about 50 centimeters deep and the roads are nearly impassable for small vehicles.
Many big trees were felled and blocked many sections of main roads and highways linking the center of the province and Sam Ngam and Wachira Barami districts.
In Maha Sarakham, many roads including Sukhaphiban 28 and Sukhaphiban 22 roads are about 30 centimeters underwater. Residences and shops on the roads are also flooded.
In Chon Buri, The Village housing estate in Samed sub-district of Chon Buri provincial seat is about 50 centimeters under water and traffic was paralyzed in its vicinity. Local residents said a road in front of the housing estate was low-lying and flood-prone.
In Sa Kaeo, many commercial areas are flooded, including the Rong Kluea market where flooding is deep and vast. Meanwhile, floodwater is about 30 centimeters deep on Sri Pen Road in front of the Indochina Trade Center that stands lower than the Rong Kluea market.
Local officials are accelerating drainage and hope the Rong Kluea market will reopen today unless it rains. (TNA)
