Phuket ready to host King’s Cup Regatta

PHUKET, Nov 16 (TNA) – Phuket is set to host the 30th King’s Cup Regatta under royal patronage from Dec 3-10, expecting over a thousand of sailors and participants from 30 countries to join the event. Senior official of Tourism and Sports Ministry, Phuket office Sirawee Walae, convened a meeting with Capt Pornprom Sakultem, chief of Naval Personnel Department, the Third Naval Area Command at the Phuket City Hall on Wednesday to discuss the preparation for this international sporting event, which will also promote tourism in the resort island of Phuket. Capt Pornprom said for three decades, Thailand has been successful in hosting the international regatta after the first competition was held in 1987 on the occasion of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 60th birthday anniversary. This year, about 190 racing boats are expected to compete in the event. (TNA)
