Police Arrest Six Men For Allegedly Killing Policeman

Depok, West Java, Oct 29 (Antara) - Chief of the National Police Commissioner General Sutarman said his officers have arrested six people suspected of committing a series of fatal shootings targeting policemen. "Six (suspects) have been apprehended. I have been working continuously, but I have not informed the media (of our efforts)," Sutarman remarked following the ceremony to transfer the national police chief post at the Mobile Brigade Corp. Headquarters here on Tuesday. The three-star general hoped that in the near future, the police will be able to disclose the names of those suspected of killing the police officers. Without divulging any further details, he noted that the six men in custody belong to the same terrorist group that had previously been involved in bombing incidents. The new police chief said a terrorist network can be compared to a cell in the human body since it keeps growing even after it is cut. Over the past two months, four police officers have been shot dead and another was injured after being shot at by unknown gunmen. On July 27, police officer Adjunct Inspector II Patah Saktiyono of the Gambir police sector was shot by an unknown gunman in Pamulang, South Tangerang, Banten, but he survived. On Aug. 7, policeman Adjunct Inspector I Dwiyatno was shot dead at Ciputat, South Tangerang, Banten. A week later, Adjunct Inspector I Kushendratna and Brigadier Chief Ahmad Maulana were killed by unknown gunmen in Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, Banten. On Sept. 10, Adjunct Inspector II Sukardi was shot dead in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission office in South Jakarta.
