Police Officers Investigate The Case Of Missing Artefacts
Jakarta, Sep 20 (Antara) - The Jakarta Police and Central Jakarta Police are focusing their investigation on five witnesses, who noticed that four artifacts had gone missing from the National Museum.
"The investigation is focused on five witnesses, from the collection staff members to security staff members," said Sr. Comr. Rikwanto, spokesperson for the Jakarta Police, on Friday.
He added that the five witnesses may have important information that will help locate the perpetrators.
Rikwanto suspects that a person might have placed an order for the archaeological valuables.
"We are investigating the case and trying to find the exact location of the artifacts," he said.
The police has questioned at least 45 witnesses, including the museum director, collection staff, engineers, and security guards.
The cabinets, in which the artifacts were stored, was not damaged.
The National Museum reported the loss of four one thousand-year-old ancient Mataram artifacts last Wednesday.
The four gold-plated artifacts are a dragon-shaped plaque called Lempengan Naga Mendekam; a scripted crescent-shaped plaque called Bulan Sabit Beraksara; a Harihara plaque; and a small golden box called Wadah Bertutup Cepuk.
