Police seize 2.2 million meth pills in Chumphon
CHUMPHON, May 16 (TNA) – About 2.2 million methamphetamine pills, hidden in a trailer truck, were seized and two drug suspects were nabbed in a joint operation between the police and soldiers in the southern province of Chumphon.
Deputy police chief Pol Gen Chalermkiat Sriworakhan, Chumphon governor Narong Polla-iad, Deputy Commander of the 4th Army Region Maj Gen Pornsak Poonsawad and other senior officials jointly held a press conference today on the seizure of more than two million meth pills and the arrest of two drug suspects.
Thanisorn Sornkla, 48 and Yodsawat Wacharathitiladakorn, 32 were arrested while driving a trailer truck, used to transport cement powder to deliver the drugs from the northern province of Chiang Mai to the southern province of Songkhla.
The duo stopped the truck at a gas station to avoid a police checkpoint in Chumphon’s Patieo district but officials, manning the checkpoint saw the suspects and asked them for a search on their vehicle and found about 2.2 million meth pills.
During the press conference, Pol Gen Chalermkiat praised Chumphon police and soldiers for several recent operations that could successfully intercepted the transportation of illicit drugs. This time, it is the biggest lot ever confiscated in the southern region.
The duo confessed that Mr Thanisorn bought the trailer truck for three million baht for carrying the illegal drug and they have been delivered the drugs from the northern border provinces to the central region for two years.
This time, they were hired for 500,000 baht to carry the meth pills from Chiang Mai’s Fang district to Songkhla’s Hat Yai business district. (TNA)
