Police To Summon Thoriq Family members Again Over Bomb Blast

Jakarta, Sept 10 (ANTARA) - Police investigators have said they will again call a meeting of the family members of Muhammad Thoriq, a suspect in the recent homemade bomb explosion in Tambora, West Jakarta. "We will invite his family members this afternoon and let them meet," Jakarta Police Spokesman Senior Commissioner Rikwanto said here on Monday. After the meeting, he added, Thoriq would undergo a series of DNA tests in order for the police authorities to determine whether his DNA matched with that of his mother, Iyot. A man who claimed to be Thoriq surrendered to police officers in Jambatan Lima, Tambora on Sunday. Earlier, the police investigators suspected that the victim of the explosion in Beji, Depok, at 9.27 pm on Saturday was Thoriq. The police had also named Toriq as a suspect and as the owner of five homemade bombs and various types of explosives found at his mother`s house in Jalan Teratai 7 RT02/04 in Tambora. On Wednesday afternoon, at around 2.30 pm, residents of Jalan Teratai in Jembatan Lima saw smoke coming out of a house owned by Iyot. When some of them entered the house, they found the smoke was coming out of an object that seemed like a bomb. Torriq fled from the spot soon after his neighbours entered the house to find the source of the smoke. The Jakarta Police Laboratory and Forensic officers found papers with guidelines to make a bomb, along with three boxes of plastic bottles, sticking plasters, two bottles of nail, food cans, batteries, cell phone chargers, PVC pipes and cables all of which have been confiscated by the police for further investigation. Densus-88 anti-terror squad officers also interrogated Thoriq`s wife, Yati, and his mother. According to the National Agency Against Terrorism (BNPT), there is some connection between Saturday night`s bomb explosion in Beji and the explosives that the police found at Thoriqs house in Tambora. "The explosion in Beji has some connection with Thoriq, whose letter was found at that place," BNPT chief Ansyaad Mbai said. "Thoriq had written to his mother, wife and children that he was looking for the blessings of God in heaven," he added. The explosion in Beji, a satellite city of Jakarta, left four people seriously injured while many others sustained minor injuries. The police also expressed suspicion that the recent terrorist attacks in Solo, in which a police officer was killed, were linked to the Beji bomb blast. Police later shot two suspects dead during a shootout in the Central Java city. "The type of weapon that the police found in Beji and Solo is the same. Both were Bareta pistols," Ansyaad said, adding that police were still carrying out investigations to confirm any links. Chief Minister for Law, Security and Political Affairs Djoko Suyanto stated that "possible links between the three cases are still being investigated". After the explosion in Depok, police found three hand grenades, a Bareta pistol with 17 bullets, an electric detonator, some gunpowder and other explosive materials, along with Thoriq`s letter.
