Political activity going on in Bahrain, freedom guaranteed

Manama, June 17 (BNA): Information Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi has stressed that displacement and destruction in many countries in the region requires from every responsible citizen and statesman to take the necessary action to protect their country. In an interview with Saudi satellite channel Al-Ekhbaria yesterday, he pointed out that many are trying to promote the court verdict to close the premises of Al-Wefaq Society as a hasty decision. However, he added, the court ruling has been awaited for more than five years as such verdicts aim first and foremost to serve the national interest. He affirmed that Bahrain’s decisions are an internal affair and an enforcement of the law, pointing out that the issue of restricting freedoms raised by some people is baseless as the Bahraini constitution guarantees freedom. The Information Minister noted that some mass media tried to show the decision as a halt of political activity in Bahrain. However, he asserted, political activity is going on and protected, pointing out that Bahrain has more than 20 political societies and 600 non-government associations.
