Political Stability Supports Investment In Insdonesia

Jakarta, Nov 7 (Antara) - Foreign investors should seriously consider Indonesia as a destination for long-term investment due to its stable domestic political condition and strong democracy, Indonesian Vice President Boediono said here on Thursday. "Although there were many obstacles, we have successfully managed the reformation process and put our democracy on the right track. Strong democracies have supported many peaceful elections and the smooth process of government changes, both at the national and regional levels," stated Boediono in his remarks at the Indonesia Investment Summit 2013. Boediono believes that democracy works well in Indonesia and that corrupt practices will be discovered and their perpetrators prosecuted. Investors often complain about regulatory and legal certainty, he added. "I realize that there are still complaints among the business community on this issue. I can only assure you that the government is fully committed to continuing to improve the business and investment environment in the country," Boediono said. Another issue that needs more attention and urgent solutions is the lack of infrastructure facilities, he noted. "We recognize that for some reason we continue to lag behind in infrastructure development for almost all types of infrastructure. But in recent years, we have worked hard to improve this situation," remarked the vice president. In the next two years, several important projects covering infrastructure for sea ports, airports, roads, railways, electricity, renewable energy and gas will be complete and ready for operation. "Many other projects are being prepared, and I welcome investors to get involved," Boediono said. The occasion was also attended by Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Mahendra Siregar and hundreds of foreign and local investors.
