Prabowo Most Popular Presidential Candidate - Study

From Ahmad Fuad Yahya JAKARTA (Indonesia), June 7 (Bernama) -- Chairman of Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) Prabowo Subianto has emerged as the most popular candidate for president of Indonesia in 2014, says a latest study. The survey conducted by Soegeng Sarjadi Syndicate put Prabowo, former son-in-law of ex-president Soeharto, ahead of former president Megawati Sukarnoputri and former vice-president Jusuf Kalla. He was chosen by 25.8 per cent of 2,192 respondents followed by Megawati of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) with 22.4 percent, Jusuf was third with 14.9 percent while Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie fourth with 10.6 percent. Aburizal is being touted as Golkar's presidential candidate in 2014 despite opposition from supporters of Jusuf, a former Golkar chairman. The Indonesian constitution does not allow two-term President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who is also chairman of Democratic Party to run for office in 2014. The Democratic Party has not decided who will be nominated to run for president in 2014. -- BERNAMA
