Premier endorses mega development project in Muharraq

Manama, Sept. 4 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has endorsed the launch of a mega development project that boosts the tourism infrastructure in Muharraq.
The BD 45 million project links Muharraq's historical souq (traditional market) with a modern waterfront including services, as well as recreational, tourism and commercial facilities. The market will be connected to the waterfront through a pedestrian bridge.
The project features a multi-storey car park, a hotel, and a souq that will be built on the current location of the Muharraq Post, and linked with the seafront through a pedestrian bridge. It also contains a boat harbour, a walkway and an area for restaurants and cafes.
The project is in implementation of the directives issued by HRH the Prime Minister during his field visit to Muharraq and its coastal area, as well as his orders to increase development projects that serve Muharraq in the commercial and touristic fields.
This came as HRH the Prime Minister chaired here today a work meeting during which he was informed about the development project that includes facilities that boost tourism in Muharraq through the hotel that will be built in the old area, and overlooks the waterfront. The project also provides a parking lot that accommodates 500 cars, and a souq that is an extension to the old Muharraq Market, and preserves the region's historical features.
The Prime Minister was briefed by the Deputy Premier and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Urbanisation and Infrastructure about the project's technical details.
HRH the Prime Minister underlined the government's keenness on implementing vital development projects that serve the citizens and provide tourism, recreational and commercial alternatives for them, and, at the same time, consolidate its efforts to develop tourism in regions across the kingdom, especially Muharraq, given its rich historical heritage.
HRH Premier directed to put the development project out to tender as soon as possible, stressing that the project should support the government's policies aiming to provide tourism and commercial alternatives for the citizens, and enhance Muharraq's commercial, tourism and cultural activities.
