Premier thanked by Sustainable Development Award winner

Manama, Sep. 17 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa received a letter of thanks from Professor Anna Kajumulo Tibaijuka, the former Tanzanian Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, former UN Undersecretary and former Executive Director of the UN-Habitat. Professor Tibaijuka expressed her profound gratitude for being bestowed the "His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Sustainable Development Award". "I thank Your Royal Highness for this recognition and promise that in return I shall continue to work hard in pursuit of the noble goals of the Award, namely, helping communities attain sustainable development," she wrote. "Having worked successfully at international level, your recognition has come both as an incentive but also as a new challenge for me to deliver prosperity and sustainability in my own community. "Your Royal Highness's commitment and dedication to your country and people has been acknowledged worldwide and is an inspiration to us all. It is a best practice to be emulated. I salute the generous, progressive and forward looking peoples of Bahrain that you represent. The news of Your Royal Highness bestowing upon me the above named honor has been received not only by myself but practically all Tanzanians from different walks of life with great happiness, gratitude and pride. "The President of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. John Pombe Magufuli, upon learning of the news, promptly sent me a congratulatory message observing that "this honour is a blessing from God. It is an Award in which my people who have re-elected me to represent them in Parliament have found a lot of inspiration and renewed hope." Professor Tibaijuka received congratulatory messages from many officials from the United Nations and senior political figures in Tanzania, civil society organizations, academics, parliamentarians, senior government officials. She emphasized that the conferment of the Award at the UNHQ in New York during the General Assembly is an appropriate and fitting occasion because over the years, her colleagues there had witnessed firsthand the many initiatives, which she had initiated at UN-HABITAT to promote sustainable development, always with focus on the least developed countries, the poor, and women. She pointed out that a delegation of her fellow Parliamentarians are in the process of making arrangements to select a few representatives to accompany her to the grand Award ceremony in New York. Professor Tibaijuka in her letter extended an invitation to HRH the Prime Minister to visit the region of Kagera and her constituency of Muleba South, on the western shores of Lake Victoria, to see firsthand challenges that must be overcome to deliver the Strategic Development Goals (SDGs).
