President’s address on occasion of 10th anniversary of June 2010 tragic events

Bishkek, June 10, 2020. /Kabar/. President Sooronbay Jeenbekov addressed the people of Kyrgyzstan on the occasion of 10th anniversary of the tragic events of June 2010. The following is a text of Jeenbekov’s address: "Dear compatriots! The tragic events of June 2010 were the most difficult test for our independent state. In those days we experienced the pain of loss of many compatriots, grief and sorrow filled our hearts. Today is a day to honour the memory of those whose lives were claimed by the tragedy. We express our deep condolences and share the pain of loss of parents, children and relatives of the victims. We also thank the international community that supported our country in those difficult days. We have once again become convinced that the issue of preserving national unity and inter-ethnic harmony requires delicate treatment and needs constant protection. The implementation of national policy in our country requires weighing and thoughtfulness. We will learn lessons from the past, strengthen the unity of our people and develop our country together. Dear compatriots! Kyrgyzstan is a multi-ethnic state. Representatives of more than 100 ethnic groups live in our country. The culture, language, traditions and customs of all ethnic groups require respect for themselves, and the rights of every citizen require reliable protection. Our ancestors, passing on to us a blessed homeland with a glorious history, bequeathed to us the sacred preservation of unity and harmony among the people. We are obliged to continue this path worthily and pass a strong, developed, prosperous state to the younger generation. Let each of us contribute to the development of the country, to strengthening the unity of the people and inter-ethnic harmony. May peace and prosperity always reign on our fertile land!” Ten years ago, on June 10, 2010 the clashes between Uzbeks and Kyrgyz have started in the south of Kyrgyzstan. Hundreds of people were killed during the ethnic conflict. Dozens of people remain missing.
