President Jeenbekov pays tribute to heroes of April Revolution

Bishkek, Apr. 7, 2020 / Kabar /. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the April People’s Revolution, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov paid tribute to the heroes who died in the April events, the Kyrgyz president’s press service reported.
The head of state laid flowers at the memorial to the heroes of the People’s April Revolution of 2010 at the Ata Beyit National Historical and Memorial Complex. A memorial prayer was read.
Jeenbekov also visited the Taazim Historical and Memorial Museum, which contains digitized photos and video materials about the chronicle of the April events, information and portraits of the heroes of the People’s April Revolution. Left a memorable entry in the visitors book.
Flowers were also laid at the Memorial Monument to the victims of political repression, at the grave of writer Chyngyz Aitmatov and the Memorial to the memory of those killed during the tragic events of 1916.
The event was attended by Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Dastanbek Dzhumabekov, Chairman of the Supreme Court Gulbara Kaliyeva, ex-President Roza Otunbaeva, First Deputy Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov.
After visiting the Ata Beyit memorial complex, Jeenbekov laid flowers at the Monument to the memory of those killed for the freedom of the people during the Aksy events of 2002 and the April events of 2010 on the central Ala-Too square in Bishkek.
On the eve of Sooronbay Jeenbekov made an address on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the April Revolution.
On April 7, 2010, protesters led by opposition leaders stormed the parliament building in Bishkek and took over the headquarters of several major broadcasters and caused president Kurmanbek Bakiyev to flee his home residence and, ultimately, to flee the country. Roza Otunbayeva was then chosen as head of the Interim Government.The anniversary of the Revolution was declared a public holiday in 2011.
About 100 people died, more than 400 people were wounded during the April Revolution.
