President of Qatar Volleyball Association Praises Achievement of Team Qatar in FIVB Cancun Hub

Doha, April 27 (QNA) - President of Qatar Volleyball Association and the West Asian Federation Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari praised the achievement of Team Qatar's duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan after winning the Silver Medal of the 4-stars FIVB Cancun Hub - 2nd event, which gives ranking points to the upcoming Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Kuwari said that winning the Silver Medal for the second time in a row in the Cancun championship represents a new achievement for the national team, and gives it ranking points that would place him at the forefront of international teams. He noted that the national team has come a long way in the direct qualification journey to the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo, noting that there are 16 teams that will be qualified directly according to the international classification. Al Kuwari revealed that the association is looking for a second qualification card to Tokyo through the participation of the duo Saif Al Majeed and Ziad Abdul Majeed in the next continental championship expected to be hosted by Thailand, and there is another Qatari team consisting of the duo Abdullah Naseem and Mahmoud Essam that is also being prepared to participate in other world tours. Al Kuwari underlined that the achievements of the Qatari sports in general and the volleyball game in its various categories have been accomplished thanks to the support provided by the wise leadership and the great attention from HE President of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani. On the plan to prepare the national team in the coming period, Al Kuwari emphasized that there are three world championships remaining for the team to qualify for the next Olympic Games, and the team will participate in all of them, which are in Mexico, the Czech Republic and Russia. He noted that the Qatari beach volleyball team will be in a constant state of preparation and will enter joint camps with the Russian and American teams, in addition to its participation in world championships until the next Olympic Games. The Qatari beach volleyball team will participate in the 4-stars FIVB Cancun Hub - 3rd event which will kick off on Friday. (QNA)
