Press Assembly of Islamic World opens in Tehran

TEHRAN,Oct.30(MNA) – the Press Assembly of Islamic World was inaugurated here on Saturday at Tehran’s Laleh Hotel. Managing directors of the Islamic press from 38 countries as well as managers of Iranian media took part in the program attended by the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini. Hosseini, who made a brief speech at the ceremony, announced that the Press Union of the Islamic World will be established right after the ongoing International Press Festival at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla ends on Tuesday. “Our nation is proud to have been defending the school of Islam and the divine values,” he said. “The press festival provides the opportunity for the world press to meet and exchange views but this is not sufficient and requires a coherent organization,” he said. He added that a permanent secretariat of the Press Union of the Islamic World will be established to help arrange more meetings in Iran or other countries. Hosseini stressed that the enemy is trying to keep the Muslims isolated from one another, adding, “That is why the Islamic countries must stay united and fight against the deceptive intrigues of the enemy.” He also pointed to the role of Iran in the Islamic awakening movement and said that the past three decades of resistance by Iranians against the enemy has made our country a symbol for other Islamic countries. “Iran is an honorable land which proved one can gain achievements and make progress without the United States,” he added. He also stressed that as the West is making the most use of public media to reach their goals, we must likewise try to make better use of the media as well. The ceremony was brought to an end with the participating managers agreeing to prepare a final statement of the union soon.
