Probe launched into CID officer attempted murder

Manama, June 20 (BNA): Chief of the Terror Crime Prosecution Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadai said the Terror Crime Prosecution had launched an investigation into the attempted murder of an officer from the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science (CID) in Sitra.
As soon as it had been notified of the incident on May 22, the Public Prosecution carried out the necessary examination of the crime scene and requested a coroner to examine the injured.
Investigations led to the identification of the perpetrators of the crime who are accused of setting up and joining a terror group that plotted to target and kill security officers. A fire weapon was provided to use in the crime and one of the defendants lured the officer to Sitra. Upon his arrival, another defendant, who received military training on weapons and explosives, shot him.
Ten suspects from the terror cell were identified and their homes were searched alongside other places they used to hide from the security officers and conceal materials used in their crimes. The police officers also seized the fire weapon used in the crime as well as other ammunition.
The suspects were provided all legal guarantees during their questioning. They are facing charges of setting up and joining a terror group, attempted murder, training on the use of weapons and explosives, possessing fire weapons and ammunition, harbouring a suspect accused of a crime and failing to report a crime.
The Public Prosecution remanded the suspects in custody pending further investigations.
