Promoting Bahraini women's rights highlighted

Manama, Nov 16 (BNA): The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and Bahraini Women Association (BWA) today held a meeting to activate the cooperation memorandum of understanding on the protection of Bahraini women's rights. They called for the issuance of a unified family law to protect women's rights taken into account the privacy of the two Islamic sects. SCW Secretary General Hala Al-Ansari hailed the role played by the BWA and NGOs concerned with following up the Bahraini women's needs. The two sides reviewed a number of topics, including the activation of the recent royal decrees and ministerial resolutions related to women and family stability. They agreed to celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November. And to accentuate Bahrain's reservations about the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). They also agreed to amend the Bahraini citizenship law on granting the Bahraini citizenship to the children of Bahraini women married to non-Bahrainis.
