Putrajaya Floria 2012 Generates More Than US$600,000 In Sales

PUTRAJAYA, July 9 (Bernama) -- Putrajaya Floria 2012 has generated over RM2 million (US$627,071) in gross sales, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin. He said the total included sales of flowers, ornamental plants, handicrafts as well as refreshment from June 30 until Sunday. He said there were more than 200 participating entities including 50 commercial stalls, 60 stalls on art and craft and 40 refreshment stalls which attracted more than 800,000 visitors to the nine-day event which ended on Sunday. "Floria is not only an exhibition of real flowers, but a festival which creates opportunities for entrepreneurs and to boost the growth of the flower, landscaping and tourism industries," he said when closing Floria 2012 at Persisiran Tasik, Precinct 2, here, Sunday. Also present was Putrajaya Corporation president, Samsudin Osman. Apart from creating greater public awareness on the importance of protecting flora, Raja Nong Chik said the festival was the best branding for Putrajaya to the international stage. "It has also created its own history this year when 10 international garden designers took part in the festival and became the jury of the competition," he said. Themed "Captivating Bougainvillea," Putrajaya Floria 2012 exhibited more than 400,000 plants of various flowering species and ornamental plants from tropical and sub-tropical areas. Putrajaya Floria 2013, to be held from June 22 to 30, will have orchids as the theme. -- BERNAMA
