Qatar 2022/ Qatar Creates... Cultural Platform Curating and Promoting Diversity of Cultural Activities in Qatar
Doha, November 14 (QNA) - Qatar Creates is a year-round cultural movement and a platform for arts and culture aimed at enriching the cultural scene in Qatar.
Launched by Qatar Museums in 2019, the initiative is an inclusive platform to enrich, enhance and celebrate the diversity of cultural activities in Qatar with an unparalleled program of high-level events, exhibitions, live concerts, and opening events, all geared towards the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and beyond. As the initiative transforms from a limited period of events to a thriving national cultural movement throughout the year that attracts local and international audiences alike. Moreover, Qatar Creates is a global summit for the cultural innovation economy, acting as a platform to promote local, regional and international cultural perspectives.
HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, the Chairperson of Qatar Museums, underlined that Qatar Creates was designed to create meaningful and authentic cultural experiences by fostering and supporting talent in the creative industries from Qatar and the region.
"To achieve this mission, we are deeply honored to work with leading names in arts and fashion to deliver this one-of-a-kind experience, whose lasting impact will undoubtedly ring within our society and community long after the tournament concludes," HE Sheikha Al Mayassa added.
Led by HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, Qatar Creates is committed to showcase local and global talent to the world. Participating entities in Qatar Creates include the Museum of Islamic Art and MIA Park, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum of Qatar, Qatar Museum's Gallery Al Riwaq, Qatar Museum's Gallery Katara, 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Dadu, Children's Museum of Qatar, and the newly launched ‘Creative Hub' comprising of the Fire Station – Artists in Residence, M7, Tasweer Qatar Photo Festival and Liwan Design Studios and Labs.
Qatar Creates unprecedented schedule in conjunction with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 features 17 exhibitions across five museum and five creative hubs, 10 high-profile events, three live festivals, 15 Qatar Creates lounges and over 80 public art installations across the country.
In this framework, a number of exhibitions were opened as part of Qatar Creates to be ready for the World Cup fans, including the "World of Football" exhibition at the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum which will run until April 1, 2023. Like a football match itself, the "World of Football" is displayed over two halves. The first half – Football for All, All for Football – examines the universal and global appeal of football; the beautiful game that is played, watched and enjoyed by millions. The Road to Doha is the second half of the exhibition and follows the long journey to Qatar 2022, from the first FIFA World Cup matches in Uruguay in 1930 to the final at Lusail Stadium on 18 December 2022.
Other exhibitions include the "Lusail Museum: Tales of a Connected World" exhibition which runs until April 1, 2023 at Qatar Museums Gallery, Al Riwaq; and the "Art Mill Museum 2030" exhibition which announces the future museum of international modern and contemporary art developed by Qatar Museums in Doha. The exhibition is on view to the public until March 30, 2023 at the Qatar Flour Mills Warehouse and Al Najada Heritage House (15).
In the same context, the Museum of Islamic Arts is hosting the landmark temporary exhibition "Baghdad: Eye's Delight" until Feb. 25, 2023, which introduces and celebrates Baghdad as one of world's most influential cities in the Islamic world. Meanwhile, the "On the Move: Reframing Nomadic Pastoralism" exhibition which is on view at the National Museum of Qatar until Jan. 14, 2023 sheds light on the lives of nomadic and semi–nomadic pastoralists across three distinct geographic regions: the Central Sahara in Africa, Qatar in the Arabian Gulf and Mongolia in Inner Asia.
In parallel, many public art works have been unveiled across Doha as part of the Qatar Creates initiative, most notably the magnificent sculpture of a dugong (sea cow) made by renowned American artist Jeff Koons at Al Masrah Park in Corniche; the sculpture curved by Qatari artist Mohammed Al Ateeq, and many others.
On Oct. 26, Qatar Creates organized a red-carpet event and honored winners of the fourth edition of Fashion Trust Arabia (FTA), under the patronage of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser as honorary chair, at the National Museum of Qatar.
Qatar Creates also launched the "One Pass" initiative, a gateway to arts and culture for all of residents and visitors to access to museums, events, festivals, theatrical experiences, and cultural offerings across the country, along with benefits for dining, entertainment, adventure, and fashion.
Qatar Creates also delivers a series of high-profile discussion panels, open to the public free of charge at the MIA, Liwan Design Studios and Lab, Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art, the NMoQ, and M7, on the interplay of art and society.
As part of Qatar Creates events, the "Liwan Design Studios and Labs" was opened on March 29 offering a space dedicated to supporting and connecting design professionals who make integral part of Qatar's burgeoning creative community. Located in the heart of Msheireb, Downtown Liwan is housed in an imaginatively redesigned historic building that was the first officially recognized girls' school in Qatar opened in the late 1950s.
Qatar Creates also presented the "Rossana Orlandi: Ro Guiltless Plastic" exhibition for the first time in the Middle East at M7, which is an international project conceived by renowned Italian curator and gallerist, Rossana Orlandi, and her daughter, Nicoletta Orlandi Brugnoni. The special exhibition features the artworks of creatives from across the globe who were invited to reuse, recycle and upcycle different kinds of waste material.
Among the most important exhibitions held within the framework of Qatar Creates is the "Pipilotti Rist: Your Brain To Me, My Brain To You" on view at the National Muesum of Qatar until Dec. 20, 2022. It is the first museum installation in the Middle East by internationally renowned Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist. The large-scale, immersive video installation invites visitors to embark on a journey of self-discovery through a multi-sensory experience that inspires introspection and awe.
The National Museum of Qatar also presented the "A Sneak Peek at Qatar Auto Museum" exhibition which introduces plans for the Qatar Auto Museum project in Doha. The exhibition features high-profile automobiles, from supercars and limited editions to race cars and classic cars.
Qatar Creates events also includes the stage musical production of Mira Nair's successful 2001 Indian comedy-drama "Monsoon Wedding" which is displayed at the Abdul Azizi Nasser Theatre in Souq Waqif. (QNA)
