Qatar National Day/ Symposium at Darb Al-Saai to Highlight Qatari Women Role in Society

Doha, December 03 (QNA) - A cultural symposium held this evening, as part of the Darb Al-Saai activities, highlighted the role of Qatari women and their significant contributions to the development of various fields aspects in their society. Director of the Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani Center for Muslim Contributions to Civilization at the College of Islamic Studies of Hamad Bin Khalifa University Dr. Aisha Yousef Al Mannai, Director General of the Qatari Forum for Authors Dr. Aisha Jassim Al Kuwari, and journalist Hessa Al Suwaidi, participated in the symposium which was held under the title "Qatari Women... Great Roles and Achievements in Society", and moderated by journalist Ahmed Al Saadi. The participants talked about the roles played by Qatari women in various fields, associated with their adherence to Islamic culture, as well as the authentic Qatari customs and traditions. Dr. Aisha Al Mannai said that Qatari women make great contributions to society because of their broad Islamic culture, adding that Qatari women are keen to adhere to the authentic customs and traditions of their society, just as they are keen to raise their children on these virtues. She explained that women became, since long time, peers to the Qatari man, who contributed to the growth of women's role in different spheres, under the constitution that equalized men and women in rights and duties, stressing that Qatar women have preserved their identity despite entering into various fields. For her part, Dr. Aisha Jassim Al Kuwari drew attention to the success of Qatari women inside and outside the country, presenting many examples in this regard, noting the presence of Qatari women writers who participate in introducing Qatari culture in various fields of creativity, and assuming responsibility for cultural affairs like men. Meanwhile, journalist, Hessa Al Suwaidi, emphasized the ability of the Qatari female intellectuals, who are proud of their beliefs and heritage, to courageously work and open up with various cultures in light of the deep-rooted and solidly founded constants. She explained that women can be ambassadors of local culture through opening up to the other world, in service of the work they do in entrepreneurship, culture or media. (QNA)
